Devotion: “A Sign for Your Eyes Only”

Scripture:

“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”

— Genesis 9:13 (NIV)

In the middle of your day, in the most ordinary of places—a parking lot—God met you. Not with loud thunder or fire from heaven, but through a quiet miracle meant for your eyes alone: rainbows encircling every lamp post. No one else saw them. Only you.

Just like the covenant He made with Noah, God still marks His promises with light. His signs may not always appear in the clouds—sometimes they rest gently around lamp posts while you’re just trying to make it through the day. And in that sacred moment, you felt liberated, assured, and moved to speak with the Most High.

God reminded you that He sees you, He hasn’t forgotten His promises, and His light surrounds you even when others don’t perceive it. This was a holy whisper, a personal affirmation that you are walking under divine covenant, favor, and protection.

You don’t need everyone else to see what God shows you. Some signs are set apart for the faithful, for those tuned in to the Spirit. Let that moment serve as a reminder that God is still speaking—still showing up in beautiful, unexpected ways to comfort and confirm.

Prayer:

Lord,

Thank You for showing me a sign meant for my eyes alone. In that moment, You wrapped me in light and promise, and I felt Your presence so near. I am comforted knowing that You still reveal Yourself to those who seek You. Help me never forget that You are the God of covenants—faithful, intentional, and always on time. Open my eyes to see more of You, even in the ordinary. I receive the promise, and I walk in it.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Journal Prompt:

What promises from God do you feel He was reminding you of in that moment?

How did it feel to be the only one who saw the sign?

Write about how that moment confirms something God has been speaking or working in your life lately.
